It’s an unfortunate truth: As women we often have seemingly innumerable demands on our time and attention, and we struggle to make time for things that contribute to our own personal and spiritual growth.
It doesn’t matter how committed you are; you get sidetracked by all the “shoulds” on your to-do list, by others’ demands on your time and energy… and more often than not your own needs get lost in the shuffle.
As someone interested in personal growth, self-awareness and healing, you sense how important it is to give yourself that time and space on occasion. And I would suggest that the reason this is vitally important goes beyond your own personal desires. Especially now, in today’s world.
But first let me tell you a bit about who I am and why I feel so passionately about this.
I’m Julie Henderson, founder of Our Sacred Pause and trained SoulCollage® Facilitator. With my academic and professional backgrounds in developmental psychology and holistic health, combined with my life-long curiosity about why we think, feel and act the way we do, I’ve embraced my mission to bring perceptive insight and steadfast support to women seeking to reclaim their inner authority in order to create lives of harmony, integrity and meaning.
What I’ve discovered, in my own life experience and in working with my clients, is that one of the biggest struggles for many women, even for those deeply committed to their own growth and development, lies in finding a way to incorporate soul-tending and spiritual self-care into their lives in any kind of regular way.
Personally, I am notoriously unsuccessful at sticking to any kind of regular practice. Whether it be exercise, meditation, household chores or even getting to bed at a regular time, I often allow my intentions to get waylaid by whatever might arise in the moment.
To add insult to injury, like many women I struggle with a little internal voice that tells me that my need to take time for my own self-care is self-indulgent—or if it’s really on a roll, downright selfish.
The fact is that in order to say “yes” to yourself, you’ll probably have to say “no” to someone or something else. And when that something is as intangible as personal growth and your psychospiritual well being, it can feel pretty hard to justify.
Let’s face it: It’s just too damn easy to allow your time and energy to be dictated by external demands and annoying “inner voices”.
Imagine a different way
When you don’t make time for self-care and soul-tending, your inner light starts to fade; you can lose your drive, your optimism and your joy, and instead resign yourself to just “getting by”.
I invite you to consider the possibility that it’s OK — perhaps even imperative — to honor and embrace your desire to focus on yourself and your inner journey; To take the time to slow down and process whatever burdens you carry.
Feel into the possibility that those longings are really OK, and that those very feelings are calling you do the deep (sometimes scary and even painful) work of self-care, soul-tending and healing.
Give yourself permission to want more from life – more joy, more wisdom, more depth, more creativity, more meaning.
A way that’s surprisingly simple
Far and away my favorite process for fun, creative and profound soul-tending is SoulCollage®.

So because it’s such a wonderful healing modality, and because the best success I’ve had in maintaining any kind of self-care practice has come when there was some kind of external structure I could lean into (like when the only time I exercised regularly was when I had a class to go to or a personal trainer), I offer quarterly SoulCollage day retreats called The Gatherings.
Make it easy on yourself
The Gatherings provide an opportunity for you step away from all the external demands of your busy life and attend to your inner needs for balance, self-care and self-discovery through the process of Soulcollage.
These retreats are meant to be easy:
- Not so long that your Puritanical “too selfish” voices can kick in,but just long enough for a deep drink from the well of self-care.
- Not an intense time commitment like weekly or even monthly classes, but enough to keep yourself moving forward—there’s even a half-day option!
- And not a huge investment.
So really, kind of a no-brainer.
For women who crave a “time-out”… and those who want to “Be the Change”
For people new to SoulCollage, this is an experiential immersion where you’ll learn the basics and experience all the aspects of SoulCollage.
For those already familiar with the process, it’s an opportunity to refresh your memory, to build your deck and delve once again into your inner world.
Regardless of your level of experience, quarterly day retreats create an opening for you to reconnect and recommit to yourself, to your process and to your wholeness.
And for everyone, it’s a chance to gather with others in the SoulCollage community. Being in community creates the synergy of the group field, which deepens and amplifies your experience.
Even if you’re doing great on your own, connecting with others who are on their path helps to reinvigorate you, to move you past any stuck place and keep you committed.
Because it’s always good to be reminded that you’re not alone.

Open to those both new to and experienced with SoulCollage®, the Gatherings are an opportunity to pause from your hectic, day-to-day life, to gather in community,and learn about or deepen your understanding of SoulCollage®.
Each Gathering will begin in the first hour with an Introduction to SoulCollage® session for those who are new to the process or would like a refresher.
After the Intro hour, we will move into a leisurely experience of sacred space and soul-tending, immersing ourselves in all aspects of SoulCollage: card creation, getting to know your cards, and card readings. You are encouraged to work at your own pace, eat when you need, take a walk outdoors… whatever calls to you.
No artistic experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided.
We’ll conclude the day working with our cards – with an opportunity to hear what some of your new cards have to say and get their input.
If your time is short, there’s now a half-day option as well. Transition time for those doing the half-day session (to depart or arrive) is between 12:30 and 1:00.
Regular attendance at the Gatherings is a wonderful way not only to maintain momentum in your personal SoulCollage® work and personal/spiritual growth, but to create connections with other introspective women like yourself.

The Fall Gathering
I like to use the Gatherings to mark the turning of the seasonal wheel. I invite you to celebrate the shifting of seasons and give yourself the gift of soul-tending by joining me for a day of sacred soulwork, compassionate community and the alchemical beauty of SoulCollage®.
It’s probably always true, but especially in these turbulent times, it is imperative that each of us make time to recenter and process what is happening and what we’re carrying so that we can bring our best, most whole selves into our daily lives. I believe that in making the time for SoulCollage we are actually helping to transmute energies not only for ourselves but on behalf of the collective… Doing our part to shift the world into a higher consciousness.
I’ll have water, tea and some snacks on hand. Please bring your own lunch or plan to take a break to run pick something up. There is a microwave available, and there are numerous restaurants (mostly fast food) nearby.

I am committed to making this work accessible, and therefore am shifting to a cost sharing process in the form of a sliding scale to more equitably cover the expense. With this change I am relying on folks who have access to more financial resources to pay more so that folks with fewer resources can benefit from SoulCollage with less strain. You decide what you can contribute based on an honest assessment of your financial status.
Suggested fee: $75 for the full day, $40 for a half-day

$45 – $65 If you can meet your needs but have little savings or are paying off debt.
